I am in no ways athletic and I never have been. I'm often jealous of those people who are born with the innate ability to run fast, shoot high, kick far and I certainly have had friends like that in the past. I am, however, no natural talent at sports. Tennis and dance are the two only sports I've ever stuck with and although I've played tennis since I was five (not always consistently though) and danced for eight years, I never really got to the point where I excelled in any of them. I just did them for fun. These days I do not take any form of tennis or dance lessons and therefore it is important to find other ways to stay active. I am no huge fan of the gym because I like being outside and the thought of taking up any organized sport does not appeal to me, so I run. Running is by far the easiest way to get a really good exercise since you don't need a gym membership card, fancy equipment or some super talent. All you need is a good pair of running shoes, a kick-ass playlist and some persistence. I don't run very fast but I run quite often and sometime even quite far and that is far more satisfying for me than to each time push myself to the breaking point trying to race my previous times. I've been "a runner" for about 4 years now and although I'm no expert and not really all that good at it, I thought I would give you some tips for the reader who is thinking about starting: 1. Persistence I was horrible at running before I started doing it regularly, in fact I probably hated it. When I then started running a few times a week I soon found that I was capable of so much more that I thought and running became fun. Keep at it....it gets so much better over time! 2. Start slowly If you're not a regular runner, take it easy. Start at a pace that you are comfortable with and run for any distance you like. Don't feel pressured by anything you read or hear elsewhere about what the "proper way of running is." 3. Regularity & Consitency Decide how many times a week you're going to run and stick to it! It won't do you no good if you just run every three weeks. 4. Music Running without music is no fun at all. The feeling of speeding down a trail with a really great song playing is unbeatable! I'm quite picky when it comes to music and therefore I don't enjoy the regular work out mixes... Here are some of my music tips: Jenny, Shiver shiver, Fixin', Anna Sun, Next in line etc. by WALK THE MOON What you know by TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB Living Dead, Power & Control, The State of Dreaming by MARINA & THE DIAMONDS Shake it out & No Light, No light by FLORENCE + THE MACHINE Hit the lights, Come & Get it, Middle of Nowhere by SELENA GOMEZ Just One Yesterday, Where Did The Party go by FALL OUT BOY Starry Eyed, I Need Your Love, Burn by ELLIE GOULDING 5. Stretch This might be obvious for most but I've been quite lazy about properly stretching in the past and I've received a lot of pain because of it. So stretch, stretch, stretch...especially if you run very frequently!
