ABOUT

Welcome to The Halfnerd Girl!

Who am I? Alice: expert daydreamer, fashion freak, Ravenclaw and severe book nerd. I have a huge interest in photography and travelling the world - also, I drink a lot of lattes. I'm a Nordic who grew up in southern Europe so think of me as a viking with a(n occasional)tan...uhm...also, I'm kind of wierd.

Enjoy and follow if you do!

  Beneath the Glitter

Being a big Elle and Blair fan, I felt that I was obliged to read their novel that came out this previous summer. I never actually got around to picking it up when it came out nor during the following autumn months due to prioritizing other books that I was a little more eager to read (i.e. The Evolution of Mara Dyer). A friend of mine, however, decided to buy it for me as a Christmas gift and I was immediately excited to read it. Not necessarily for the actual story but for the fact that it was written by two people that I've followed online for several years now, people whose videos I absolutely love to watch!
If your not familiar with the book, the verdict is basically this: "After their make-up and fashion videos went viral on YouTube, sisters Sophia and Ava London are thrust into the exclusive life of the Los Angeles elite.  Here fabulous parties, air kisses, paparazzi and hot guys all come with the scene. Sophia finds herself torn between a gorgeous bartender and a millionaire playboy, and Ava starts dating an A-list actor.  But as they’re about to discover, the life they’ve always dreamed of comes with a cost."
Now, I am not the biggest fan of chic lit, I enjoy it, certainly, but I don't love it. My love for the supernatural and slightly more dramatic plot twists often overshadows my desire for tales of meeting Mr. Right and nursing shopping addictions. I ended up quite enjoying this book though, I thought it was funny and the perfect degree of light-heartedness. The one thing that keeps me from loving it though is the fact that there are a little too many clichés than I'm comfortable with - isn't one of the "rules" of writing to avoid clichés like the plague? Every now and then when I was reading I would come across small details that just seemed so...overused and that caused me to cringe a little. This wasn't something that completely repelled me from reading but rather something that made the flow of reading stop abruptly here and there.
But all in all, Beneath the Glitter is a very entertaining read and I definatley recommend you pick it up, especially if you do enjoy chic lit. I will for sure read the sequel when it comes out next summer, if not only for supporting Elle and Blair ^^
