(THE SHAME - IT BURNS!!) BUT, during Christmas I finally got into it again and managed to finish off some books and I will now proceed to talk about them. No spoilers, I promise! 1. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell ![]() Eleanor & Park is a young-adult love story set in the late 80's that follows Eleanor, the wierd new girl who comes from a problematic home and Park, the boy who's working hard to stay in with "the popular kids" and together they experience first love and all that. I had heard so many good things about this book and how it was supposed to ignite ALL THE FEELS and whatnot but I must say that I just didn't get to that point. It was a good book and I read it eagerly but I did not end up with some great sense of satisfaction or "wow, this is SUCH a good book." Eleanor & Park gets a 3.5/5 from me. ________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell ![]() Yes, same author indeed! I was curious to check out more of Rowell's books after I finished Eleanor & Park, seeing as I had heard so many good things about this particular author. Fangirl follows Cath, who writes fanfiction for a popular book series and who goes off to start her first year in college. Her twin sister no longer wants to room with Cath as she wants more individuality and Cath has to deal with being shy and having social anxiety and figuring out how to fit in on her own. We also meet a certain boy named Levi and awesomeness sparks from there. I LOVED this book, like TRULY loved this book. Cath was so relatable in the way that she struggles to fit in and the way that she is awkward and not very good at making friends. Also, I think most of us recognize the obsession that one can have with a particular book series (you know what I'm talking about.) +a magnifique love story! (hehe) 5/5 from me! Such a good contemporary YA novel! ________________________________________________________________________________ 3. Shatter Me & Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi ![]() Shatter Me & Unravel Me are book #1 & #2 in "The Juliette Chronicles" by Tahereh Mafi, a dystopian series that follows 16-year old Juliette who was born with the morbid ability of killing people with her touch. All her life she has been shunned by her parents and society and is eventually sent to awful doctors and insane asylums when she accidentally kills someone, rendering a character who believes she's a monster. The world has become an awful place. The weather has gone crazy, birds don't fly anymore and people are suffering. The new government called "The Reestablishment" realize that Juliette might be able to help them gain the power that they seek. I really like this series so far! I like the characters and I think that Juliette's ability is really intersting. The books are written out of Juliette's perspective and she has a very poetic way of thinking which I think many people (on goodreads) found annoying. I, however, didn't mind it and I even thought that it added a lot to certain situations (although there were a few metaphors that were a bit WTF.) I give Shatter Me 4/5 and Unravel Me 4.5/5 because OMG the end of the second book was amazing! Can't wait for Ignite Me (book # 4) to come out in less than a month! Yayyy! ________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Choker by Elizabeth Woods ![]() This is the most recent book that I've read. In fact, I started and finished it yesterday...it's pretty short. Choker is about this girl Cara who has been a loner since she had to move away from her best friend Zoe a couple years ago. She's in high school now and she doesn't fit in *eye roll* and people start calling her choker after an incident in the cafeteria. One day when she comes home from School, she finds Zoe sitting on her bed and agrees to let her hide in her bedroom as she is running away from problems at home. Then freaky things start happening, girls disappearing and all that and Cara becomes suspicious of her mysterious best friend. This book....this book.......ehm...I don't really know what to say, It wasn't the best. I didn't really like any of the characters and the plot was very predictable right up until what happens at the end which left me going WTF for a good while. It was creepy at times, which I liked but overall I was disappointed. 3/5 stars from me...it was simply ok. ________________________________________________________________________________ So those are some books that I have been reading recently and hopefully I'll be back with more reviews soon because I plan on reading heaps of books in the proximate future!
