ABOUT

Welcome to The Halfnerd Girl!

Who am I? Alice: expert daydreamer, fashion freak, Ravenclaw and severe book nerd. I have a huge interest in photography and travelling the world - also, I drink a lot of lattes. I'm a Nordic who grew up in southern Europe so think of me as a viking with a(n occasional)tan...uhm...also, I'm kind of wierd.

Enjoy and follow if you do!

  A year of travels
Having entered the last month of 2013, you begin to look back upon the year that we've just had. What have we accomplished? What have we failed? What have we been through? What have we learnt? But also, and perhaps more excitingly, where have I been?
I suppose that most of us enjoy travelling and I am no different. There is something so special about leaving, whether it be by plane or car or perhaps train, to go somewhere foreign for a little while. To see new places, breathe new air and get away from the dreariness of your home-town (dreary is at least the word I would use to describe mine.)
This year, I travelled a decent amount and I thought I would share some of the three biggest trips that I took. (I've been abroad more than this...but mainly to Denmark which doesn't really count)

May

Ah, Italy. Dear, sweet Italy. How I adore you.
I went to Rome the last week of may with a friend to celebrate the fact that all our school work was over and that we were graduating.  Neither of us had been to Rome before (shockingly, since I've been to Italy a billion times in my life) and we thought it seemed like a cool place to go.
While classmates of ours partied it up on sail boats in Croatia, we opted for amazing food and the opportunity to walk through ancient cathedrals...we're kind of nerdy.

These pictures make me want to go back right now! Rome is seriously such a stunning place, especially in early summer when the sun in so bright.

June & July

Right when all my siblings and I had ended school, we all left for a three week trip in Sardinia.  We had been there once before, when I was five, and we thought it would be a nice place to go on holiday. Sardinia is an absolute paradise; hot sunshine, turquoise waters and beautiful beaches...it was a dream!

We drove down to Sardinia, so on the way we passed the Alps and ate lunch here at S. Bernardino where there was still snow on the ground...such a strange contrast because a couple hours later we arrived in a very warm...
...Pisa! Another famous place in Italy I had yet to see. We were there for one night and of course took the time to go see the leaning tower!

And finally,  we arrived in Sardinia and it was superb! I strongly recommend going there during the summer. We stayed on the Costa Smeralda which is basically the North-east corner of the island. We also stopped at our old stomping grounds in Nice on the way home and Dijon but I didn't take many pictures there, unfortunatley.

October
The last week of October, I flew off to Scotland with two friends to check out some universities. I have never been to Scotland before, so I was stoked to see both Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee. I really liked it there...lots of restaurants to eat at, shops to spend all your money in (*cough* Primark *cough*) and yeah, just a lovely place in general.
Goldfish friend at the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow.
 I love the restaurant signs!

Those are the three big trips I've taken this year and they've all been incredible and so.much.fun. It was so nice to go back and look at all the pictures from them, it reminded me of all the great times I've had this year.
Next year, I can only hope that I'll travel as much or hopefully even more. I love going away for a week or two and soak up some sun and experience some foreign culture - its the ultimate break from reality!

Hope you enjoyed this post!
